1)What are primary and secondary sources?
Ans:Sources are collections of evidence or proof divided into 2 groups;primary and secondary sources.Primary sources are information provided by people who were involved in historical events.They are:written,oral,pictorial and artefacts.Secondary sources are the records of people who did not directly participate in or witness the events.They are:books,essays,films,documentaries and cartoons.
2)How do historians make sure that their sources are reliable?
Ans:Historians use the 3Cs-credibility,consistency and corroboration-test.Credibility-historians first ask if the person who provided the evidence is trustworthy.Consistency-historians ask whether the evidence is consistent, if it has statements with similar meanings.Corroboration-something said or reported has to provide information to support it.
3)Why and when is it neccessary for historians to revise their interpretations of past events?
Ans:Evidence that fails the 3Cs test cannot be considered reliable.This is when historians must revise their interpretations of past events.
